OUTLOOK FOR AUTUMN 2009 25-Apr-2009
From the beginning of the 2009 and up until now we have had little rain. This has created obvious depletion in feed in all the paddocks and an increase in dust resulting in more dust getting in to the wool. Crutching took place in early March and while doing so we could see the the stock and the wool looked promising. Consequently we started feeding the sheep barley after crutching to supplement their feed and to help with tender fibre. The barley was 15% protein which should take care of any deficiency the sheep might have. We are especially pleased with the hoggets this year because their wool is nice and clean, and has good fibre style. Because of the harder season our clip will be up to .5 of a micron finer and thus hope to have a hogget bale testing in the 13 micron range. Now that the rain has arrived pasture growth is increasing and we are looking forward to a good growing season finale before shearing in August.
