MERRY CHRISTMAS UPDATE

Merry Christmas Update,

The last few months have been extremely busy at Mullion Extrafine.  In October we had the honour to represent the Australian woolgrower at the first Natural Fibre Forum taking place in Torino Italy.  It was a gathering of natural fibre producers from around the world.  The fibre producers represented were not only wool but cashmere, mohair, vicuna, alpaca, pima cotton, and flax.  It was an amazing experience, much was learned and a manifesto was put in place to work towards for the future. More on that soon.

In November we had our annual circuit sale where we sold young two year old wethers for $48.50 and young two year old ewes for $48.00. Thank you to our neighbours, Tony and Helen for purchasing our young ewes.  All the best with them.

Also in November we purchased 11 beautiful Hillcreston rams that are doing great in their new home.  They will go out on the 1st of April to do their job.

December is full with thistle cutting every day.  Here we carefully check each paddock for patterson’s curse, saffron, scotch thistle, serrated tussock, and flannel flower to name a few.  We then chip them out by hand making sure we get any seeds and throw them in the back of the Hilux to be burned later.

We had some beautiful rain on the 12th and 13th of December ranging from 2 to 3 inches around the property.  This will result in terrific summer feed for our sheep which should hopefully lead to a good wool clip.  We also had a good lambing this year and look forward to shearing them to see the wool.

Wishing you and your family the best Christmas holiday season and a wonderful and lucky New Year.
